Repeat Glass

ORGANIZATION

Repeat Glass was founded by Jamie Arnold in 2021; however, Jamie is not new to the glass recycling business. In 2014, Jamie started a glass recycling service in Kansas City serving 25 homes in his neighborhood. When he sold the business in 2021, there were 3,400 accounts including 70 businesses, 15 homeowners’ associations, and a small municipality, collectively recycling 12 tons of glass per week.

When Jamie moved his family from Kansas to Northeast Ohio, he ran into a familiar problem – glass recycling is commingled causing highly contaminated glass that generally gets sent to landfills as mass cover or road base, effectively ending the lifecycle of glass. Repeat Glass offers source separated glass collection services for commercial, residential (curbside & drop-off), producing a cleaner glass recycling stream that can be used to manufacture new glass.

PROJECT

Repeat Glass uses a Ford F-600 truck fitted with a cart tipper to collect glass from carts on site. Repeat Glass was selected to receive a GRF grant in 2022 for $6,825 to purchase 110 64-gallon carts. The carts will be utilized in both residential drop-off sites and commercial (bars, restaurants, etc.) programs. The initial goal was to have 50 carts distributed shortly after the arrival of the carts, with remaining carts being distributed to additional drop-off sites and commercial businesses as service orders grew. There are currently around 70 carts collecting glass around Northeast Ohio.[MR1] [GU2]

GLASS RECYCLING IMPACT

Currently Repeat Glass [MR3] [GU4] provides a free residential drop-off center service and offers a fee-based subscription commercial collection service. The glass is transported to CAP Glass for processing before being sent to O-I Glass to be manufactured into container glass. The carts purchased with the support of the GRF grant will contribute to programs in Northeast Ohio which will initially divert 15 tons of glass [MR5] [GU6] per month from landfills.

“Glass can be recycled endlessly without losing quality or purity – making it an invaluable material,” said Jamie Arnold, owner at Repeat Glass. “The 64-gallon carts will allow Repeat Glass to make glass recycling available to more residents and businesses.”[MR7] [GU8]
